A rheumatologist diagnoses and treats pain and loss of movement in muscles and joints. This may include neck or back pain (with or without signs of a slipped disc), pain in the shoulders or arms, joint pain, or stress-related pain in the feet.

Common causes of pain include osteoarthritis, overuse injuries, inflammatory joint diseases (such as gout, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, or connective tissue disease), chronic muscle pain, or injury.

Through a detailed consultation and physical examination – possibly supported by blood tests, ultrasound, or MRI – the rheumatologist can identify the cause of your pain and start the right treatment plan.
